Bus Rapid Transit

The new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations across Calgary are designed to improve the Calgary Transit experience. All BRT stations are equipped with comfortable benches, waste receptacles, real time travel information, heated shelters (for those frosty Calgary winters), improved lighting, larger platforms, and CCTV.

Stations on the BRT routes have a similar look and feel and connect customers with sidewalks and pathways close to the stations. All stations are designed in size and footprint to integrate seamlessly into the location and context of its neighbourhood. For more on the project: https://www.gecarchitecture.com/brt-transitway

Baggage Handling System at the YYC

To ensure that passengers at YYC, one of Canada’s busiest airports, provides the highest quality experience for its passengers, it is important that the Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) in both the International Terminal and Domestic operate as one system to provide seamless connections for baggage between domestic, international and transborder flights.

With the new International Terminal completed and in operation for over a year, and with over 16 million passengers (and rising) being processed per year at the airport, The Calgary Airport Authority  is working with YYC and Crisplant (a leading innovator of baggage handling systems) to update the Domestic terminal with the faster and more energy-efficient baggage movement systems already in use in the International Terminal.

CTV recently featured the BHS and what it is capable of, check it out here: https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=1314757

A Place for Everyone!

Construction on the new Jasper Place Transit Centre in Edmonton has started supporting the City’s vision for growth and enhanced passenger experience.  Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) sees upwards of 400,000 riders per day, and is an important way for Edmontonians to connect. The new facility will have bright, comfortable waiting areas designed to accommodate more people. The old brick building on the northwest corner of the transit centre is to be demolished and a new, smaller facility will take its place and will feature integrated landscaping, bike parking, and seating.

YYC LINK Up and Running

YYC LINK Up and Running

This past Monday, October 31 was the much anticipated unveiling of the largest expansion project in YYC history, with the opening of the new International Terminal Building. This event also revealed one of GEC's latest collaborations with YYC: the YYC LINK & passenger shuttle system, a 700m long multi-modal airside passenger link which includes the YYC Link Route, moving walkways, and traditional corridors.

The YYC LINK passenger shuttle will physically connect passengers between the 5 Concourse, easing the process of navigating the airport and minimizing passenger travel times. Designed from the ground-up, our team has developed a unique design for the system that includes custom barriers, finishes, and lighting, and a vehicle that represents innovation in internal transportation at YYC.The passenger fleet includes 20 shuttle vehicles, each with a capacity to carry 10 passengers with their carry-on luggage. By design, vehicles will be leaving each station every two minutes on average. The service is supported by technology that will inform passengers when to expect the next vehicle at their station, and how long it will take them to get their destination.

Next time you’re at the airport, take a seat and enjoy the ease and convenience of the new YYC experience!
