A fantastic evening at the 2019 Mayor’s Urban Design Awards! Two GEC projects were the recipients of Honourable Mentions - the @Vecova Centre for All Abilities in the ‘Great City, Great Design’ category, and the BRT Transitway Stations in the ‘Urban Fragments’ category. The MUDAs recognize and celebrate the liveability of Calgary through high calibre urban design, buildings, public spaces and planning.
Envisioned as a community hub, the new Vecova Centre for All Abilities will provide over 15,000 square metres of wellness services, employment support, and living support space for Vecova’s users, as well as social innovation space to expand Vecova’s integration and connection with the broader community. Calgary Transit’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Transitway Stations employ a unified and recognizable design that is consistent across all routes that span the city. The design intent was to convey a cinematic energy to passengers using the rhythm of the peaked shelter roofs and warm, repeated light standards.
