In celebration of World Landscape Architecture Month, we profile GEC’s redeveloped Paul Kane Park in the inner-city neighborhood of Oliver! The renewed wetland pond maintains the park’s modernist heritage, and natural design. The park features wooden decks, integrated concrete benches, and a cascading water feature that feeds into a new wetland ribbon that encircles the pond.

We are excited to announce that our Peter Lougheed Hall on the University of Alberta campus is now officially certified with 4 Green Globes. Sustainability has played a key role in the development of the building's orientation, massing and design. Peter Lougheed Hall's sustainability strategies focused on passive solar design, high-performance building envelope, heating and ventilation initiatives.
Carved out depressions in the ground plane of the courtyard will form boiswales and rain gardens to capture and store storm water. The landscaping utilizes plants and trees native to the North Saskatchewan River Valley ecology. Peter Lougheed Hall is a student dormitory for 143 students in addition to 3 guest suites and one professor in residence. The building houses dormitory rooms, a dining hall, and a gathering space on the upper level.
