A Place for Everyone!

Construction on the new Jasper Place Transit Centre in Edmonton has started supporting the City’s vision for growth and enhanced passenger experience.  Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) sees upwards of 400,000 riders per day, and is an important way for Edmontonians to connect. The new facility will have bright, comfortable waiting areas designed to accommodate more people. The old brick building on the northwest corner of the transit centre is to be demolished and a new, smaller facility will take its place and will feature integrated landscaping, bike parking, and seating.

Now Open: Edmonton’s Paul Kane Park.

The next chapter of Edmonton’s Paul Kane Park has begun! In late September 2017, this urban park was re-opened to the public. The design features an integrated solution that maintained the park’s original modernist, natural and geometric design.

As an established park in an urban setting, GEC’s design team needed to update Paul Kane Park while maintaining its natural character, the existing mature landscape, undulating topography, and prominence of the pond. The naturalization of the existing ornamental pond presented several technical challenges and opportunities for integration into the overall site design. Integrated sustainable water strategies including storm water management were considered. A system was created within the park to adjust and accommodate storm events while still maintaining adequate circulation and water quality.
