GEC is pleased to announce Jason Pare as a Partner with the firm.
Jason has been a strategic contributor to GEC through his comprehensive design and project management of some of the firm’s complex urban design and architectural projects. Joining GEC in 2017, he accepted a position as an Associate the same year. He has over ten years of professional experience across western Canada, servicing a diverse client base across multiple market sectors that include educational, institutional, and urban design projects. Jason’s approach to design is deeply rooted in place and culture, focusing on integrating disciplines and approaches to create architecture that enhances our environments and engages the public. He has been a critical part of GEC’s work at YYC Calgary International Airport, NorQuest College, the Century Place Tower Redevelopment in Edmonton and the Edmonton City Hall Plaza and Fountain Redevelopment.
We’re proud to welcome Ashli MacDonald as an Associate with GEC! She excels in managing projects using Building Information Modeling (BIM) and cloud technology to develop coordinated construction documents, regardless of the size of project. Ashli’s experience ranges from LRT redevelopments to mixed-use housing projects to early education K-12 schools. Congratulations Ashli!

She has worked on several high-profile GEC projects across western Canada including the feasibility study for the Canmore Nordic Centre redevelopment and the design of the University of Alberta’s Varsity Arena. Peter Osborne and three other honourees from Edmonton will be inducted this week in Ottawa for The College of Fellows of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) in recognition of outstanding achievement. Criteria include design excellence, exceptional scholarly contribution, or distinguished service to the profession or community.
A Partner at GEC, Peter is interested in urban design and planning for vibrant public spaces. He is an advocate for design excellence and has published a number of articles providing insight into the challenges and opportunities architecture as a profession faces. Latest projects include NAIT’s Productivity and Innovation Centre and the University of Alberta’s Peter Lougheed Hall residence.
The Partnership is pleased to welcome Gillian Carr as an Associate with GEC.
Gillian joined GEC in 2005. Her early career focused on programming and designing educational and community facilities including Bow Valley College, McKenzie Towne Elementary School, Badlands Community Centre, and WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre. Since that time, Gillian has become a leader in designing places for people to Gather, Learn, and Play.
Currently, Gillian is leading the Banff Affordable Housing Project, the Saskatchewan Joint Use Schools Project (18 schools), and the Banff Elementary School replacement, as well as master planning and programming for Repsol Sports Centre. She has experience leading project teams through community consultation and public engagement, and has developed expertise in synthesizing client and user needs into a unified design. Gillian is an accomplished project manager, designer, and collaborator skilled at guiding complex projects from concept to completion.
