Excited to Work with NorQuest!

The federal Strategic Initiative Funding (SIF) program is designed to modernize research and commercialization facilities at Canadian universities, colleges and polytechnics. NorQuest has been awarded $1.38 million by the federal government for various upgrades to the South Learning Centre and establish the Innovation Centre.

GEC is working closely with NorQuest to develop the Innovation Studio, which will provide a space for business, industry, and community partners to work with students and researchers. This investment will promote research, translating ideas into new products and services, accelerating business growth, and propelling entrepreneurs from start-up to success.

With sweeping views of the river valley, dining halls, collaboration spaces, and individual rooms, the residences will provide a place for students to live, share ideas, and connect as part of a vibrant student community.  As the landmark residence on the site, Peter Lougheed Hall is expected to be complete this spring for students to move in and make their mark. Visit SKYRISE Edmonton for a detailed look at the East Campus residence development.

St. Mary's University: Celebrating History and Ready for the Future

St. Mary's University: Celebrating History and Ready for the Future

This week marks St. Mary’s 30th year as an important post-secondary institution in Alberta. The GEC team was on site to celebrate the University’s milestone and to unveil the new Heritage Centre.

The Heritage Centre supports St. Mary's continued expansion, and will provide instructors and students with flexible instructional space for 150 students. The Heritage Centre will serve as a lecture hall, theatre, and ceremonial venue, and will host First Nations, Metis and Inuit events. Attached to the iconic 100 year old water tower, the new Heritage Centre is respectful of the historic environment while providing a modern educational facility to support students and instructors.

GEC and CANA Construction have worked hard over the past year to make this a reality, and we are looking forward to the Heritage Centre becoming an important piece of the St. Mary's Campus.
