Martindale LRT Station

Located between houses and condominiums, this station faced a number of challenges including privacy and overlook issues as well as technical issues related to the restricted width of the site. GEC worked with the community to develop a design that addressed these concerns. The result is a simple, half-arched structure with a glass roof that shelters passengers and balances the privacy needs of adjacent residents with the security needs of transit users, provided by passive surveillance.

Constructability and maintenance issues caused by the platform’s proximity to the property line were also a major factor in executing the design. The substation at the Martindale LRT Station is a simple building that takes the form of the adjacent station. The curved roof is economically constructed using lightweight steel framing over a simple box structure.
