GEC established new planning guidelines and outlined detailed land use requirements for the redevelopment of Michener Park. The new plan focused on the integration of the student housing with the adjacent community through a new bioretention system and linked courtyards. At the centre of the development is a shared amenity building which allows the surrounding community to meet and interact with students. This level of integration was achieved through extensive public consultation that involved multiple stakeholder groups including the University, community members, the City of Edmonton, and both school boards.
