Paul Kane Park Redevelopment

A vibrant year-round hub.

GEC worked closely with the City of Edmonton and stakeholders through multiple engagement sessions to determine a strategy for the redevelopment of the Paul Kane Park Ornamental Pond. The project included redeveloping the pond to meet Alberta Health Standards and create a vibrant park in downtown Edmonton. The first phase of the project was to confirm information from a previous study, which provided a guide for redevelopment, to ensure it addressed the long-term goals of the park.

The naturalization of the existing ornamental pond presented several technical challenges that GEC addressed in the site design. Integrated sustainable water strategies including stormwater management were considered. We created a system within the park to adjust and deal with storm events while still maintaining adequate circulation and water quality.
