Ashli MacDonald

Associate

Ashli brings a steady hand, sharp mind, and people-first mindset to every project she leads. As an Associate and Architectural Technologist at GEC, Ashli has spent nearly a decade guiding complex post-secondary and educational projects across Alberta—from initial drawings to successful delivery. She thrives in the role of Job Captain, where her calm presence and clear-eyed focus help large teams navigate fast-paced, high-pressure environments with confidence.

Ashli’s technical background includes an Architectural Technology diploma from SAIT and a Technology Management degree from NAIT. Her passion for quality and learning led her to take an active role on GEC’s QMS committee, where she’s a driving force behind process improvement and knowledge sharing—always with an eye toward making life a little smoother for her colleagues and better for the people who use the spaces they design.

For Ashli, buildings begin and end with people. Whether she’s working with clients, consultants, contractors, or junior staff, collaboration isn’t just a strategy—it’s a core value. She’s known for bringing a big-picture mindset and calm planning to the early phases of construction documents, helping set projects on a strong course from the start.

Outside the office, Ashli recharges in nature—on a paddleboard in summer or a snowboard in winter—and finds joy in cooking meals by feel, not recipe. That same instinctive approach guides her work: she likes to envision the end goal, then figure out how to get there. If she weren’t in architecture, you might find her travelling the world with a camera and a blog or working in an environmental field that gives back in a different way.

One of her proudest moments? Coming full circle at SAIT, contributing to the very campus where she studied years before. It’s a reminder of what motivates her most: building spaces that support and uplift people.
