Bob brings nearly two decades of thoughtful, purpose-driven architectural experience to his role as Associate at GEC. Since joining the firm in 2005, Bob has become a key contributor to major transportation and municipal infrastructure projects across Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto, including work in light rail and bus rapid transit. His practice is grounded in the belief that architecture is an act of service—one that shapes not only spaces but the lives and communities they support.
With a Master of Architecture from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta, Bob combines technical expertise with a deep commitment to sustainable and resilient city-building. A LEED Accredited Professional, he approaches design with curiosity and care, always considering how small, specific design decisions contribute to larger, more complex systems—whether social, environmental, or urban.
Colleagues might describe his working style as “deft and completely daft”—a combination of sharp insight, generous humour, and grounded collaboration. He values the opportunity to be involved across all phases of a project and brings a quiet intensity to his work: humble when listening, assertive when needed, and always committed to the greater good.
One particularly meaningful project was the Glenmore Dam Refurbishment in Calgary. For Bob, the project represented a convergence of the personal and professional, combining his deep connection to place with the chance to enhance the city’s infrastructure and flood resilience. The experience, both cerebral and physical, affirmed his love for design that is equal parts pragmatic and poetic.
Outside of work, Bob finds inspiration in the outdoors—whether walking, skiing, or exploring Calgary’s natural spaces with his family. He’s grounded by simple rituals (like morning porridge) and big joys (like long walks with his eldest son on Nose Hill). If not an architect, he imagines he’d be a millwright—a testament to his lifelong love of systems, precision, and building things that last.
