Charles Fung

Associate

As an Associate at GEC, Charles brings clarity, focus, and a calm, steady presence to every project he touches. A Technologist and Job Captain by title—but a go-to mentor and quiet leader by nature—Charles is the kind of person who’s fully present in the work, no matter the scale. He’s someone you want in your corner when things get complex: detail-oriented, collaborative, and never afraid to dive deep into the technical nitty-gritty.

Since joining GEC nearly eight years ago, Charles has contributed to a wide range of projects across Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario—including transit hubs, recreation centres, multi-family developments, and institutional spaces. As part of GEC’s BIM team, he helps advance digital design practices across the studio, ensuring projects benefit from efficient workflows and precise coordination. He’s at his best when guiding projects through the Construction Documents stage, where he helps bring design intent to life through careful coordination, clear documentation, and direct communication. From emails to impromptu chats to late-night Bluebeam sessions, Charles shows up with commitment and with his full attention.

But his impact goes well beyond deliverables. As a mentor, Charles is invested in the growth of others in the studio, sharing what he’s learned while encouraging a culture of openness and collaboration. He knows that asking questions, staying current, and supporting your team are essential to creating both strong work and stronger relationships.

Charles holds both a diploma in Architectural Technology and a Bachelor of Technology in Technology Management from NAIT and is certified through Building Transformations. Outside of work, you’ll often find him travelling—whether it’s road-tripping with friends or floating above the Masai Mara in a hot air balloon. His love of architecture doesn’t stop when he’s off the clock; wherever he goes, he makes time to explore how design is shaped by place, people, and culture.

Whether he’s leading a team through tight deadlines or planning his next global adventure, Charles brings the same mindset: stay calm, stay curious, and aim for quality over shortcuts—always.
