Michael brings a rare blend of strategic focus, creative energy, and deep architectural curiosity to his role as GEC’s Director of Marketing. Since joining the firm in 2016, he’s helped shape not just how GEC continues to build its portfolio of projects, but also how the firm tells its story, evolves its identity, and positions itself for what’s next.
With a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary and graphic design training from SAIT, Michael’s path has always straddled business and visual storytelling. Today, he leads GEC’s marketing team with a clear vision: support great design by helping win meaningful projects and growing the people who make them possible. Whether reimagining the firm’s brand, building a strategic pursuit, or mentoring the next generation of marketers, Michael’s leadership is driven by curiosity, care, and a competitive edge honed by years in the field.
A self-proclaimed design nerd, he’s especially drawn to projects in sport, recreation, and post-secondary—places where people come together with purpose. He thrives in high-stakes moments and derives equal satisfaction from seeing his team grow into confident, capable, and creative professionals. For Michael, it’s not just about landing the work—it’s about helping shape a studio culture where talent is nurtured, voices are heard, and the impact of design is clearly seen.
Outside of work, Michael is a lover of all things active and adventurous—from snowboarding and golfing to volleyball and soccer (the biggest MLS fan!). He’s also a seasoned traveller, a violinist, and someone who believes in the power of good laughter and meaningful conversations. And while he sometimes jokes about opening a surf shop on a beach in the South Pacific somewhere, his passion for the built environment—and the people behind it—runs deep.
For Michael, marketing is more than a department. It’s a creative engine that drives the firm forward, helping turn vision into visibility and talent into opportunity.
