As an Architect and Associate at GEC, Wayne has quickly become an integral part of the team, joining the company in early 2026. Beginning his education with NAIT’s Architectural Technology program, he continued his studies at the University of Toronto, completing an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, Urban Studies, and Visual Studies, followed by his Master of Architecture. Returning to his home city of Edmonton, Wayne approaches each project with a strong sense of empathy and a design sensibility that aims to put the needs and experience of the end-user at the center of every decision.
Through his work, he tries to encourage a truly collaborative design process, recognizing that the strongest ideas emerge from working closely with both clients and colleagues. He brings a willingness to ask questions, to learn from others, and to push ideas further, while remaining adaptable as priorities shift and challenges arise.
Working across a range of different project types and scales, a recurring theme throughout Wayne’s work has been a focus on mass timber structures, paired with a commitment to sustainable building practices and the creation of a high-quality public realm. While he values all phases of a project, he finds it especially rewarding to see a completed project brought to life by the community it was built to serve.
Outside of work, Wayne continues to explore his creativity through cooking. Whether experimenting with new ingredients and techniques or visiting local restaurants, he sees it as an evolving craft. For him, it is an “endlessly creative” pursuit that allows him to engage with different cultures, refine his process, and connect with others.
Both personally and professionally, Wayne seeks out opportunities to make meaningful, long-lasting improvements to the world around him. With this perspective, every project becomes a chance to foster connection, to shape daily experiences, and to strengthen the communities we live and work in.
