Pratt and Whitney – Aircraft Engine Assembly and Testing Plant

Legacy Project | Client Pratt & Whitney Canada | Location Lethbridge, AB | Completion 1993

High tech appearance and a low maintenance obligation.

The Pratt & Whitney Plant is a facility for the assembly of helicopter engines. As a member of the Design-Build team, GEC Architecture was responsible for architectural design and interior design, including finishings, coordination of an engineering discipline, participation in sub-trade tender, analysis, and negotiation.

The building was designed to reflect the high technology industry which it houses. Materials and finishes were chosen for high-tech appearance and a low-maintenance obligation. Extensive use of daylighting was undertaken for both assembly and office areas to reduce the typical warehouse atmosphere of such buildings. Glare was controlled through the use of photocell-actuated semi-transparent interior shades.

The project was completed by a fast track, project management delivery approach.
