4-Car LRT Extension Program

Modernization for a city on the grow.

CLIENT City of Calgary

This City of Calgary program saw the extension of 16 existing C-Train stations and the city-wide traction power system to increase train capacity from 3 cars to 4, and to double headways. GEC led and facilitated the modernization, design and urban integration of these 16 stations and surrounding infrastructure over a 5 year period, within the operational LRT corridor, and with minimal disruption to revenue service. Our responsibilities included integrating the extended platforms into the existing urban fabric and parks, providing traction power and utility substations to support the increased electrical capacity required to run 4 car stations, designing multi-modal transit stations at many of the facilities to include busing upgrades, off-platform waiting amenities, numerous pedestrian track crossings, and plazas.
