GEC was retained by the University of Calgary to provide master planning and design services for two independent but related streams of work: GEC provided master planning services for the entire Administration Building and designed and led the redevelopment of the Executive Suite to fit within the new master plan. While the Administration Building is among the oldest buildings on the University Campus, a contemporary touch was provided that not only illustrates the timelessness of one of Canada’s leading universities, but also speaks to the vibrant nature of a youthful and growing institution.

The master plan and associated long-term strategy laid the foundation for the renovation and renewal of the entire Administration Building. This includes complete mechanical and electrical system upgrades, building envelope renewal, entry modifications and the re-purposing of the existing atrium. The second stream of work included renovating and expanding the existing University Executive Suite. Two independent teams were created to service the two streams of work. In order to ensure communication and coordination between scopes, Peter Osborne served as the University’s single point of contact and project architect for both streams.
