West Block-Mixed Use Transit Oriented Development

Client In House - Beaverbook Communities | Location Edmonton, AB | Size 20,596 m2 | Completion Ongoing

With residences, shopping, dining, and offices in one place, West Block offers a new way to live.

Working with the team at InHouse, GEC has developed a truly mixed-use development in the West Block; a place Edmontonians can live, play and work. Together, we have designed an urban community that is unique to Edmonton and will bring a new level of quality to its built environment. Located in the mature neighbourhood of Glenora, the West Block will reimagine a previously abandoned housing project into a new transit-oriented urban community. We focused the design around a south-facing urban plaza that will create an active, vibrant and sun-filled space designed with our winter city in mind.

The first phase of the development includes 100 West Block, a 60-unit residential tower featuring views of Edmonton’s downtown and river valley. To take advantage of the views, floor to ceiling glazing surrounds 100 West Block along with generous private terraces off each unit. 100 West Block's podium contains over 9,300 m2 of retail and commercial services and a new three-storey professional building. The Phase 1 commercial development features an innovative timber structure that utilizes glue laminated beams and timber flooring. The commercial development’s warm wood interior and generous floor to floor heights create a modern loft space for discerning tenants. Once completed the West Block will house 500 new residential units across three towers and family-oriented townhouses.
