Since 1964, the Jasper Place Transit Centre has been one of Edmonton’s busiest transit terminals; its recent renewal has transformed it into a safer, more intuitive, and welcoming space for daily travel. Located in a mature west-end neighbourhood, the redesign improves visibility, strengthens the public realm, and makes the site easier to navigate for riders of all abilities.

Before the upgrade, the transit centre was nearing the end of its life. Its mid-block location on Stony Plain Road limited pedestrian connections and created constrained sightlines, making wayfinding challenging. The City needed to keep transit operations running throughout construction, adding complexity to an already tight urban footprint.
GEC collaborated with the City to reimagine the centre as an open, connected, and user-centred space. The design introduces a generous sheltering roof, clearer wayfinding, and enhanced amenities for comfort and accessibility. Temporary stops with clear signage ensured riders could adjust confidently while buses continued to run safely. Future integration with the Valley Line LRT was also considered, making the site adaptable as Edmonton’s transit network evolves.

Today, Jasper Place Transit Centre supports daily travel while strengthening its neighbourhood. Safer pedestrian connections, improved sightlines, and thoughtful public realm enhancements encourage consistent use and create a more positive experience for riders. Flexible, future-ready, and rooted in the community, the renewed transit centre stands as a catalyst for ongoing renewal along Stony Plain Road.

“Located at one of Edmonton’s busiest bus hubs, GEC’s finished Jasper Place Transit Centre includes a generous roof, shaped to welcome pedestrians and encourage consistent use of the facility.”
